Spotlight on Shanghai as The Portman Ritz-Carlton, Shanghai Opens the Doors of its New Ballroom and Event Venues

Shanghai, June 6, 2011 –The wait is now over for Shanghai’s newest and most sophisticated event venues. After completing an extensive renovation, all event and meeting planners, wedding organizers and guests are invited to a new level of experience as The Portman Ritz-Carlton, Shanghai opens the doors to new ballroom and function rooms in June 2011.

The renovation commenced in December 2010 and took over the entire third and fourth floor of the hotel, occupied by 11 meetings rooms, a Ballroom and a business centre which encompasses a total area of 5.400-square meter. The improvements include installing latest video conference technology, state-of-the-art sound and lighting system, Wi-Fi internet access, new amenities and contemporary décor enriching Asian influence with modern Chinese artworks.

Manfred Weber, General Manager of The Portman Ritz-Carlton, Shanghai, says: “We are excited to reintroduce our new ballroom and event venues in Shanghai as part of our mission to continuously seek opportunities to innovate and improve the Ritz-Carlton experience. The renovation has been inspired by the overwhelming interest in the region for top quality event venues and facilities; such demand is exciting for the Shanghai events, meetings and wedding market. The Portman Ritz-Carlton, Shanghai is proud to be able to continuously innovate and provide such multi-functional venues for Shanghai and international event organizers alike”.

All spaces are resplendent with a mix of traditional and contemporary modern architecture design, featuring opulent attention to detail in the soft furnishings. Special touches include luxurious Spanish sandstone marble combined with elegant carpet flooring, sleek silver leafs wall covering, classy Chinese lanterns decorating the foyers, and unique linear digital artworks in each floor.

The stylish handmade woven genuine leather doors combined with anodized golden metal frames will welcome all guests when entering the Shēn Ballroom, known previously as Marble Hall. This special venue will also show off an iconic floor-to-ceiling spiral wall that will immediately capture attention with champagne colored three-dimensional lines, symbolizing the flow of water that is believed to be the source of all life and the specific den of the dragon for good luck. Created by Anglo-Italian designer, Loris Lightfoot, the glamorous bee hive hexagonal crystal chandeliers have been individually crafted to bring a true sense of luxury to all events. The shape of the chandelier is also believed to emit positive and productive energy for people gathering in the room.

Sophisticated culinary art experiences have also been redesigned by Executive Chef Steve Grein and his team, with new creative menus now available for all kinds of events including banquet, wedding, themed coffee breaks, social events or personalized menus.
