The Ritz-Carlton, Doha Appoints New Executive Chef

Matthew Morrison, American national, has been appointed Executive Chef at The Ritz-Carlton, Doha.

In his new role, Matthew will oversee the culinary operations at The Ritz-Carlton, Doha hotel. He will be responsible for directing and coordinating creative and elegant food production as well as presentation and service for catered functions. Recommending equipment needs and developing special recipes and menus, plus revision of standardized recipes to incoporate new products and procedures will also be Matthew’s responsibility.

Mr. Morrison received culinary training from the Baltimore International Culinary College where he graduated with honors in 1993. In his quest for excellence, Matthew went to study at the European Educational Center in Ireland and the Culinary Institute of America, NAPA Valley, California in 1994.

Matthew has brought 14 years of culinary experience to Doha. He began his career in 1988 with the Catholic Charities Food Bank in Washington DC, where he worked as a server. Matthew began his fine dinning career under Mark Miller at the renowned Red Sage in Washington DC before joining the Hyatt Regency, Washington in 1995. After one year of active service, Mr. Morrison took up appointment with Marrriot Wardman Park and held positions as Garde Manger Chef, Banquet Chef and Executive Sous Chef in the space of four years.

In the fall of 2000, Matthew participated in the opening of The Ritz-Carlton, Washington DC and served as the Executive Sous Chef. Three years later, he was promoted to The Ritz-Carlton, Pentagon City as Executive Chef. Matthew assisted in the opening of The Ritz-Carlton, Lake Las Vegas, The Ritz-Carlton, Georgetown and The Ritz-Carlton, South Beach before taking up his present appointment with The Ritz-Carlton, Doha.

Mr. Morrison enjoys taking classic food and adding a mordern twist to it. A personalised touch and proper flavoring are two important basics he applies to cooking. “If you use exceptional ingredients, you will achieve exceptional results,” Mr Morrison advises.
